Peace Building & Conflict Resolution

Mediating and preventing conflict between farmers and pastoralists through awareness, dialogue and modern livelihood practices.

All programmes

Conflict between crop farmers and pastoralists is one of the most persistent challenges in rural Tanzania. Competition over land and water, especially in the dry season, has long fuelled mistrust and, at times, violence.

TISER works at the heart of these communities — convening awareness meetings, facilitating cluster dialogues, and helping farmers and pastoralists design their own agreements on grazing routes, seasonal calendars and dispute resolution.

Alongside dialogue, we promote modern livestock-keeping practices that reduce the need to move herds through farmland, turning a source of conflict into an opportunity for shared prosperity.

What this includes

  • Community dialogue & cluster meetings
  • Farmer–pastoralist mediation
  • Modern livestock-keeping education
